Born in 1960 in Metz/France, lives and works in New York City/USA. With over 80 solo exhibitions worldwide, his work is collected by connaisseurs and institutions worldwide, i.e.. Making his art a journey between worlds, Rousserie travelled the globe making his boat a floating studio. His deep interest in primitivism, ancient signs and spiritual belief systems led to collaborations with artists, shamans and healers in Africa, Europe, India and South and North America. Studies of prehistoric art, hallucinogenic plants and contemporary animism form the foundation of Rousserie’s painting that evolved into a very personal symbolism, venturing beyond postmodern relativism, in search for a universal truth that truly represents the notion of the postcolonial and globalized world of today. |
